Wood is a
living material, it moves with the seasons. Woods tend to expand
or contract depending on the temperature and humidity of
their environment. Therefore, to preserve your flooring, it
is recommended that you maintain a constant humidity in the space
it is used. A rate of 40-60% is recommended and can be achieved
with the use of air humidifiers or dryers. |

All floors
should be kept free of dust and grit. Use a broom or canister vacuum
(without power head), or an untreated dust mop to remove these
particles. Clean floors with any approved hardwood floor cleaner.
Read and follow cleaner manufacturer’s instructions for
cleaning. Use only cleaners that are specifically formulated for
hardwood floors. |
|
 |
Do not
flood floors! Do not use abrasive cleaning pads. Never use
too much water for cleaning. |
|
 |
For
difficult cleaning chores, use a small amount of mineral spirits
on a clean cloth. Follow with wood flooring cleaner. |
|
 |
Consider
using a door mat to keep grit and dirt from tracking in. Never use
plastic, rubber or foam back rugs, as they may discolor the floor.
Move rugs occasionally to avoid uneven changing of color of the
wood floor if in strong light. Always use felt protectors on
anything that will move across your floor. |
|
 |
Refrain
from placing plants in containers with direct contact with your
hardwood floor. Condensation will leave a mark. |
